OK, Dont shoot me but, dealer is pestering me about a Bullet. New one with 250Pro XS. Anybody have pros or cons compared to a Cougar? I have looked at the bullet and clearly not as much quality as a Cat. I love my cougar, got it just the way I want it, but I am a speed freak. Just dreaming Thanks, Milton

I may be wrong but I think Bullet still uses wood in parts of their construction.

I live about an hour away from where bullets are built and I have fished out every model from the old 17 & 19 footers to the 20xd and 21xd. I have fished out of the regular weight hulls in these models and the comp hulls also which are lighter. The only boat that even compares to BassCat as far as a total performance of speed, handling, ride, and most importantly fishability is the 21xd. The only thing is that the 21xd is 21 11″. That is not a fair comparison to the 20 Basscats. My 07 Pantera II rides better, has more storage, and has a bigger front deck then the 20xd so if you compare the 20xd to the 20 Cat models then they blow the bullet away in every catagory except speed. BassCat is fixing to put the jag back out on the market and I think it will blow the 21xd away in every catagory except speed also. The 21xds are not as fast as the 20xds and they are not much faster then the 20 Cats. One of the guys I fish with has a 20xd comp hull and has a mod 2.5 and his boat will run low 90s all day with a tourny load, but I absolutely hate fishing tournaments out of it. He has even admitted my 19 boat is a better tourny boat then his 20. In my opinion if speed is the ONLY thing that matters to you then Bullet is probably the way to go, but if you want a true TOTAL PERFORMANCE boat then BassCat is the boat you need. Quality is what counts in my book!!! plus I love my back, rode in bullet one time and that was the last time!!!!!

Bullet is a feather-light hull. You can put them, allisons, and strokers together in the same category. They only qualify as bass boats because of decks w/ limited storage and pedestal seats. Yes – they will have trollers – but the fishability is very lacking. They are racing hulls and to perform comes with many compromises youll soon miss. What you have now will outrun 95% of the mainstream tournament boats on the water – get your speed rush outrunning them. Last year – Jan 1, 08, we lost a local angler in the Arkansas River. It was a decent day to be out – low 40s, river had around a 1 chop. Frank had just put a new motor on his Allison and was out making speed runs by witness reports. Story has it that he must have hooked the hull around 80 coming out of the throttle too quick. He wasnt wearing his PFD or kill switch. They found the boat running and beached on a sand bar. He was an extremely good and experienced driver and was well respected for his setup skills. Frank floated up about 5 months later and was found. My neighbor who ran a Bullet w/ Simon motor sold his rig and bought a Puma. He says 80+ is fast enough – likes the new boat much better. Speed is a rush you never get enough of. No matter how good a driver you are – some of these boats will exceed anyones abilities to control. Stick with the Cougar.

Thanks to all, I pretty much made up my mind to stick to the Cat. Like I said, I have it just about perfect now. Maybe a fury prop and Ill be set. Its scared enough now I dont mind getting in the junk a little deeper. Maybe in a few years a new Cougar with a 250 ProXS

Milton, We always tell those who look at a Bullet, dont stop half way when you compromise, go to an Allison in those cases. If you want speed, get a speed merchant. Though we find a Bullet to be a compromise and that older Bass Nautique style pad and narrow bow to be a factor. The Allisons are very expensive by comparison also. Engines are X, equipment is Y and trailers are dependent on the brands. We find our costs of trailers and production to be higher, though if you want that type set up, we would not stop half way. Otherwise get the bass rig that you prefer. You cant run wide open that much and they wont be that far ahead of you in a BCB model. And you will be ahead of plenty others who run similar true bass rigs. BCB

Bullet in my own opinion is the slickest looking boat just due to the fact it is a straight lined and sharp boat. They are made to do what they do and fish ok. But they will never fish like a Bass Cat and a Cat is still my number 2 in the looks department. If I ever owned a different boat it would only be one of 3 Bass Cat, Bullet, Gambler. And in that order. But I love my Eyra
