OPTIMA BATTERY ADVISE

anyone out there using the bluetop optima batteries for their trolling motor? im looking at two D34M at sams for $155 each, but wonder if thats enough power for my 82lb thrust motorguide. sams doesnt sell the D27M, which would be my ideal choice (a tad more power). is anyone running a 24-volt system with the Optima D34Ms (and using an on-board charger to recharge them each time)?will i be okay with the 34s ? i dont do any tourney fishing, and if lucky spend about 30-40 days on the water a year. any advise will be appreciated.

i remember you posting that you used optima for your cranking battery. do you also use them for your trolling motor? if so, what size?

This is the one that Im using for my cranking battery, works good and no problems with this. Using the 31 Maxx from walmart for TM. They yet havent died. Yet? But they was free, so cant complane.

I have been using 3 of the 31ms for about 5 years and I have 2 of the 34s that I have been using for the same amount of time in a little pond prowler that I have and have never experienced any problems, I would recommend the 31m just because of the added time it would give you on the water if you do need it. I have a dual-pro 3 bank on-board charger and have not had any charging issues with it or the Schumacher carry charger I use for my other boats batteries.

I am running the dual purpose Optimas for my trolling motor, an MK 80 Maxxum. No problems and like you, I do not fish(probably less than most now). Ive had them for over 3 yrs with no issues. I have a MK 330 on board charger, but other chargers can/will work if you check out whether they charge AGM/ spiral cell/gel cell batteries.One of the newer “family” on this board is working for the Optima company, Im sure he could help answer questions as well. I am running 4 -31N, never had a problem, always there for you. Run 101MK 36V. -not a worry about fast guy, so weight doesnt bother me. is everyone using the largest size? (31s) im starting to think the 34s (which are actually the smallest of the line) might not be enough power.

I am using the D34M Optima blue top dual purpose for my troller batteries. They work for my uses. Depending on how hard you fish those 30 days or types of water (current v. no current) may help decide which ones suit you. I do fish Arkansas River summertime but also fish lakes. My fishing is rarely over 6-8 hours per trip, and I do spend more time on my front deck than I do driving around. Sam just maxes out because he can(just kidding). have you ever had a day when you ran out of power (with the two 34s) ? you sound like were in the “same boat” (nice pun!) with regards to boat use/fishing time.
