Power Pole bow switch questions?

I recently ordered a power pole and I am going to install it this weekend. My question is what should I use for a foot switch on the deck? The factory switchs buttons are to close together and I dont really care for that setup. I am thinking of using 2 horn switches so I can space them appropriately for my size 12 feet! Ive also heard a big toggle switch works well??? I want to use something that can be foot operated, simple to use, and obviously durable. What have you guys used and how do you like your setup? a bow switch is a must. i installed the foot switch sold by powerpole, and have not had any problems (once i finally made my mind up as to where i would mount it…which took a while) bassproshops has the same switch for cheaper price, but you still need to buy the harness/wiring with proper connections from powerpole. going that route will save you about $30-$40 bucks. mine is hooked directly to the battery with two switches (foot control on bow and included toggle switch on outside wall of console), but i am strongly considering adding an ON/OFF switch somewhere (probably just before battery connection) so i can completely power down for traveling. right now, the switches are “hot” all the time. so far no problem, but it seems like a problem waiting to happen. some of the best money ive spent on my boat ! you wont regret your purchase. good luck….drilling the hole for the wiring was the hardest part (mentally) of the entire installation.

the two button switch with an accordian style black sleeve covering each switch? i mounted as a single unit up at the front tucked in the corner just before the recessed area. however, i ended up flipping it around so wire is run thru hole in wall of recessed area instead of thru the cap. worked out okay. used a rubber grommet to protect hole, wire runs straight down…let me know if you want a photo .Last edited by cajun catter on October 10th, 2009, 3:17 am, edited 1 time in total.

CC– I really appreciate your help. A photo of how you ran the wire w/ rubber grommet etc. would be great if its not to much trouble. Im probably not going to use that switch, however I would like to see how you wound up doing yours. Thanks Again! Travis

sorry about quality. shot in dark with flash, but you should get the point. console switch is the rocker on right of outside console wall. i wanted it in a central location where anyone on the boat could get to it. mostly use the footswitch now, but rocker comes in handy often. good luck. We try to just drill a entrance hole under the foot switch and route the wire through that hole hidden, rather than running the wire on top of the deck. The wire folds back and hides easily. BCB

Have you considered the wireless remote? I wear it on a belt clip, the kind with a retractable cord, and it works all over the boat. In my opinion it is much better than the foot control. I have been using it for about a year now.

basjax– I have ordered the remote and plan on using it until I drop it in the lake! I believe I will use the remote quite a bit, but I also would like to have the ability to be hands free and step on a switch while casting, fighting a fish, etc. I decided to use the trim switches that BCB uses on the front of our boats. I have them spaced comfortably for big feet, and if BCB uses them Im confident they are quite durable. Ive got them mounted on a plate so if I do need to move the two switches it should be quite easy. Also, they were substantially cheaper than the steering wheel trim switch sold by power pole!
