power pole sportsman vs pro

trying to decide what to buy. price is a factor, though i want to make the right choice. i know the sportsman only has a 3 year warranty vs the pro with a 5 and the finish is anodized vs powdercoat. but is it worth the extra money? both are going to anchor the boat and i dont see the benefit of spending more money on the pro. even if a pump goes out on the sportsman out of warranty, you could buy another pump and still be under the price of the pro. does anybody hae a compelling reason to spend the extra money on the pro? i have seen numerous posts on various sites and havent found any complaints from the guys that use the sportsman.

Sportsmans II here, worked as it should for me. Only difference is the mount on the unit and paint job. Anodized has faded slightly below the waterline. One thing I found interesting when comparing the models was that the Sportmans had the “quietest pump” whereas the Pro and Signature had “very quiet pump” and the Blade series only had “quiet.” You would think it would be the opposite.

From the specs it appears as the pumps are different, as well as the remote control system. The holding power is less on the Sportsman than the Pro series and even less than the Blades. This implies there is stronger pump on the pro series and even stronger on the blades. This would support the” quietness” differences, as well as the total package weight (3 lbs more) on the pro series.The remote control on the sportsman does not mention “bluetooth” or support for iPhone/android support. I am not sure if the sportsman series has a separate unit for the remote (the parts page shows a stand alone unit for the sportsman and pre 2011 pro series). I know the remote control unit is in the pump unit for the pro series, which is what I have. Your Signature …

to the poster that stated the sportsman has faded below the water line….do you wipe yours off after after you get off the water and they still faded or do you think this has occured because of skum buildup from not cleaning?

The anodized parts on the Sportsman will fade just like any aluminum parts. It does not effect operation.

I ended up going with Pro Series after debating between all options about a year ago. I got mine from Hydrilla gear and he layed it out like this at the time. He said lots of guys like blades because of smaller profile and the fact that the spikes sit kind of recessed in housing when poles are upright. Eliminates vibration, noise, etc. if you are making long rough runs. Other than that simply cosmetic for guys who want the top of the line stuff over pro series. Eliminated that one for me. Pro series and blades have faster, stronger pump and I think a couple features like the phone app for androids. I liked the idea of longer warranty too coupled with added features. But to your point, SS is going to get the job done. Consideration for me also was resale since you can move Pro series real quick if need to…SS seem to be little hard to sell used for decent price. And youll never regret buying any of them for tons of reasons. I use my almost every time I go and I know of two tournaments I would not have done well in without them last year.

Ive had both. The Sportsman II is all anyone really “needs”. The finish will fade below the waterline, however, the rest of the unit will hold up just fine. I put mine through its paces and it still works flawlessly to this day (2 years later). This one was mounted on a P2.Im running the Pro Series II now on my Eyra and they too are great units and will indeed have higher resale, but also have a higher initial price tag.In the end, its really up to you and your budget. The best thing you can do is buy at least one of either and youll never regret it.

I would say even the loudest PP pump is still quieter than the Talons. I do speak of the original design in which todays version may be quieter. Also I have zero vibration, rattles, or any ill noise to speak of from the SII series.
