Propping out the 2017 Pantera 2 and new 200 HP 4 Stroke

I'm currently running a 24" Fury 3 on my Pantera 2. No doubt that this is the wrong prop as I can get the speed out of it but cannot get the RPM's up at WOT. I can get maybe 5700 rpms. I have a friend that can run a 23" Trophy+ and get to 6200 RPM's. I am considering the Trophy or a Bravo 1 FS in a ~24" pitch. Can BCB staff weigh in on running either one of these props on the P2. I'm not trying for mid seventies speed but I want the overall handling and to reach the RPM potential of the new 4 Stroke Mercury. I welcome comments from anyone who is running either of these props on their P2 with the 4-stroke Mercury.

Jim is right. You are on your way! More seat time and you will get the last ounce of speed/RPMs the boat has available. I turn the Trophy Plus 6220 RPM’s and 70.5-71.2mph with a 3’ Jackplate (due to garage restraints0. I believe your low speed porpoise is due to Trim position. Remember, The Trophy will lift the whole hull, not just the nose. Sp lower speeds will require a slightly lower trim angle than usual. As Jim said, I can get 6000-6090RPMs and 72-74 with the Fury3 23p, but hate the way it rides flat at mid-range which is most of my riding! Let me know if you have any questions.

Gents, this is a great thread. I have a 24 Fury 3 on my 2021 P2. My RPMs are in the mid to upper 5s and the top speed I have seen is 68.3. Some of that is due to full tanks and too much weight behind the wheel. I do get the chine in the mid 60’s so I bump the trim down and try moving it up slower. I do love this boat but want to be able to hit 70 consistently. The dealer told me to expect low to mid 70’s but I cant seem to get there. Of course coming from an R boat I have some learning to do.

Nice looking P2 OrangeBass. Those are typical numbers for a 24 Fury 3 with the 4-stroke. If you like the Fury then you should try a 23 Pitch and that should get you closer to 6000 RPMs and 70+ MPH. It is the prop that BCB seems to recommend. Barrigj has seen some success with it as he says in a post above. You need more seat time and a 23 Fury because you are almost there now.

JEH…thanks…this boat does get some compliments. I think I will start looking for a 23 Fury and give that a try. I wont be driving 70 very often as our waters up here are pretty big and can get rough…but those early morning rides sure would be fun.

My 2021 came with a 24. Too much prop even with a really light load.

OrangeBass, With the 23p Fury3 you should be able to run 70-73mph on your set-up, This is with full fuel and tournament load. The TrophyPlus 23p will get you 69-71mph consistently but it is easier to drive. Seat time will get you there. The fastest I have had my 2020 was 76.4mph with the 23p Fury3, tournament tackle, 16 gallons on fuel, and just me. I have to say, it was a handful to drive at that speed. I really like the handling of the TrophyPlus on that hull. Let me know if you have any questions about the PII – I have had 12 of them! They all ran like a scalded dog with the 2stroke 200 (72-75 consistently), but i much prefer the 4stroke for all-round performance. Gerard

My P2 is running 73 mph @ 6000 rpm with 2 guys , full load ,half tank fuel and live wells empty.. 23P 3blade Fury.. 3 1/4″ PTP.. I’m seriously happy with the boat.. will order a trophy 23 for rough water running..

Thanks for the comments Mudbug 169. You are doing good with the Fury 3. When you get the 23 Trophy + you might enjoy driving with it more than the Fury because it just “feels better” for an all around driving experience. Enjoy your beautiful P2.

Nice rig and driving! How’s the holes or between 2-stroke and 4-stroke since you’ve had both on a P2?

I do run with most all my tackle behind the seats. Rods, Life Jackets, Partner’s Tackle are up front. The 4stroke seems to carry the load much better in the mid-range and HoleShot areas, and better fuel economy than the 2strokes. Fuel Economy is about the same for both motors when running wide ass open!! LOL. Also, I do not have Power Poles, but do run an Ultrex up front. Let me know if you have any other questions. Gerard

Yeah figure 220hp(200×10%) takes the same amount of fuel to make, so wouldn’t expect much difference in fuel economy as AFR is probably similar. My initial plan was to buy a P2, but it only gained 3” on the front deck and 3” on the back deck as half of the extra foot was in the console area and the seating position didn’t feel as good as a Sabre or Eyra. The latter is my dream boat, but the price of one is getting hard to justify. I’ve been happy with the Sabre just wish the 175hp 4-stroke had been out when I bought it as holeshot is a little soft when loaded in the heat, though if upgrading engine I’d rather just put the more powerful 3.4L V6 on the back and have it run like the P2;)

Wanted to give everyone an update! I had my 23p Fury3 B&B (plus cup added) by Ronnie Gilbert. Truly helped the performance!

By myself, full fuel, my tackle; boat ran 73.7mph at 5980RPM’s. With 2 people, full fuel, full tackle, and empty live wells; boat ran 72mph at 5900RPM’s and mid range; 51.8mph at 4300RPMs. B&B definitely helped the ride and performance of the Fury3 23p on the Pantera II. Hope this helps!

Great information share on this topic guys. I don’t have any experience with the 4 strokes but I would like to give you another option to try. Powertech’s TRO4 is very similar to a trophy. Not necessarily better but the one I had did lift slightly more than the trophy’s and was fairly quick. It could be worth a shot but I have no idea how it would perform with the 4 strokes. Also runs a little stiffer than the trophy’s as well. Keep up the good work and all of these P-II’s are awesome rigs. I had the pleasure of seeing JEH’s up close on some local water and it is a sharp setup!
