Rod Storage

I am thinking about putting some rod stowage for my partners in my 2002 Sabre, as pictured in the new Sabre and Pant 2 in the boat section. Is there anything I should know before I break out the hole saw? Has any one done this kind of modification? Thanks!

I guess youre referring to the passenger side rod holders and not the rod box storage system. If youre talking about the rod box, Ive got some pictures. If youre talking about the passenger rod holders, Ive got no advice. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

I am talking about passenger rod holders. Look at the interior pictures of the new Sabres and Pantera 2 and you will see them on the back of the rod box.

Those tubes have a grommet in there, and they also have a secondary wall to reduce moisture leakage. If you drill yours, then the water will simply run in those holes. BCB

NEVER drill holes in a perfectly good BCB ! This is the simplest answer to the partner rod stowage problem, and i and several friends have been using one for a year or so, and love them ! D. http://www.team2kfishing.com/rodcaddy/

I have an 03 sabre and made a rod holder for my rig I used some cardboard to trace the curve of the hull , then transfered to a piece of 1 x 12. cut it out then used some 2x stock to make a backer , attached the two together, painted, drilled holes for the rod buts and then attached it to the back of the rod locker from the inside of the locker out with 3 small screws. I can shoot a couple pics tonight if you would like. Not real pretty but works for me and can be removed very easily and a smal dab of silicone would seal up the holes in the locker wallTreat everyday like it might be the last

do you think the back deck of an 02 sabre is large enough for this caddy? anyone out there using one…looks pretty neat. (i worry about long rods hanging over side and catching tree limbs, stumps, or dock poles) id love to hear from some of the fellas using this…especially in a sabre.

You position the “caddy” off center, so you can place the poles one direction, and avoid too much overhang on one side. When i first started using one i had reservations, but after a year or so i can say that i love it, and my partners do also. In fact i bought several of them for friends, etc,,, and will be putting one in my Cougar now. Give the guys up there a call, theyre good guys that tournament fish together and will answer all your questions. D.

what a brilliant concept! and so simple. i can see many positives to using one. i worry about it gobbling up too much space on the sabre, though. the back deck on the 02s might be tight with one of the racks installed. ill have to check out the dimensions first….but i really like it. getting ready to install a powerpole i purchased. cant wait to try it out, too. thanks for sharing! tight lines to ya.
