Switch to a Hot Foot

Any switch to a hot foot recently? What are your impressions after using one for a while? Everyone claims they are safer, but I do not agree. I think it would be a pain on long runs. Any thoughts?

Ive had a hotfoot on several boats. Have one on my Caracal. Its not bad on long runs at all. I know most of the folks at BCB are not fans of the hotfoot, but I do think its safer. I imagine one could argue the issue both ways.

Ive done both, hot foot better on several counts. Can keep both hands on the wheel is the biggest safety advantage. Another is if you should leave the cockpit and foolishly do not have the kill switch hooked to you, the boat will at least slow to idle vs. going at what ever speed you have hand throttle set at. We lost a club member and another (the driver) was hurt badly when out fun fishing because didnt have hotfoot, failure to where kill switch, or wear life jackets. Though with the circling boat at speed not sure life jackets would have helped. I also think you can react faster to unexpected waves etc. with hotfoot. Only disadvantage is long runs, at least for us old guys, your leg can get tired. I think advantages outweigh disadvantages. Just my 2 cents.

In my many yrs of owning a bcb I never had a hot foot. Alway thought negative things about them. In late 2014 I bought a 2013 p2 with one. I had already had it in my mind it was leaving the boat. Ran without for two seasons, I had one installed when I repowered. I ran 50+miles a day at LOZ last weekend and I did not get fatigue from using it in fact I wouldnt want to navigate on that lake especially without it. Two hands on the wheel all the time, with a blinker style trim, I guarantee more control over traditional hand throttle.

Wouldnt be without HF. Allows both hands on wheel and allows me to adjust trim and JP with both hands on the wheel. When running in a group I want both hands on the wheel! If HF is adjusted correctly leg fatigue not bad on long run.

Im one of the oddballs I guess. Ran for years without one, then last year bought a boat with one, and hated it. Leg tires on long runs, harder to run big water, and you have to keep your foot on it when you want to idle at 800+rpm. I just bought a Pantera II that had one, but Im re-powering it and Ill be removing the Hotfoot.

Removed mine as well. Would bind up & have too reach down & pull back to idle speed when docking, was told it was a possibility with certain shorter boats. Glad its gone!

Think about supporting the inboard side of the base plate when your installing it so the hot foot pedal tilts the same outward angle as your foot.Practice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO
