03/14/20 – 33RD BASS CAT OWNERS INVITATIONAL – OFF TO A FOGGY START

JASPER, Ala. (March 13th, 2020) – A major fog bank settled throughout Lewis Smith Lake today, delaying takeoff by almost three hours. The 225 boat field had to make quick adjustments on an already challenging bite.

Even with limited fishing hours, several teams were able to keep themselves in the hunt, with 12 teams bringing in double-digit limits. From Mountain Home, AR, the team of Trey Anderson and Eli Powers hold a narrow lead over Tommy McGuff and Bobby Taylor with a five bass limit of 13.78 pounds. That bag was anchored with a 4.82 pound largemouth, earning them big bass for day one.

This is the duo’s first time fishing Smith Lake but they did their homework prior to arrival. Both of their practice days produced a kicker largemouth as well. Unfortunately, the falling water forced them to lean on their backup plan today. Thankfully things still worked out and they hope to replicate on day two.

Aside from the delay, Bass Cat President, Rick Pierce was in awe of the flotilla that emerged from the fog just before take off. “It was a sight to behold this morning. An overwhelming feeling of pride and gratitude to see our family together. We can’t stress enough how accommodating the Walker County Chamber has been, and we’re already looking forward to a return trip here in the future.”

Tune in tomorrow to see which team can hold steady for two days in a row and head home with a brand new Sabre FTD. Another lucky participant will be awarded a brand new, fully rigged Puma FTD during our famous random drawing.

A live leaderboard will keep you updated if you are not able to attend the weigh in which will kick off around 1:30 PM at the Smith Lake Dam boat landing. Public attendance is welcomed.
